Creative Writing Editor

MALCS invites nominations and self-nominations for one individual to serve as Creative Writing Editor for Chicana/Latina Studies for a five-year term. Applications due by January 2021.

Search Procedure

The National Advisory Board will review applicants for each position immediately after submission deadline. For the position of Creative Writing Editor, the National Advisory Board will make a recommendation to the current Lead editor.

The application packet for Creative Writing Editor should include:

●      A vision statement that sets forth goals and plans for the creative writing section of Chicana/Latina Studies. This may include an assessment of the current strengths, weaknesses, or gaps the candidate(s) offer(s), as well as a plan to address these, and specific actions to operationalize the vision.

●      A description of the background information of the candidate. This should include the name, affiliation, and other relevant information about the potential editor. Evidence of the ability and experience of the editor to provide sound judgment and feminist guidance to potential authors.

●      A description of the institutional support the candidate has secured. It is important for candidates to address the feasibility of serving as editor(s) in light of the resources likely to be available to the editor candidate(s). MALCS does not pay for office space or release time, but may provide some financial support for office resources as necessary to Chicana/Latina Studies editors. In the past, such support included funds for travel to the MALCS Summer Institute and for artists’ honoraria. Since the support offered by different institutions varies widely, applicants are encouraged to contact the Executive Office of their university as necessary in order to ensure the feasibility of the application. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) between MALCS and the editor’s institution will be required for the editor’s benefit.

Nominators should ascertain their nominee’s willingness to serve before submitting a name to the academic content editor. Self-nominations are also welcome. The application should also include a letter describing the professional and personal interest and qualifications for the creative writing editor position, a CV, and contact information. These should be submitted electronically to journal@malcs.org at least three months prior to the end of the current Creative Writing Editor’s tenure.
